Grand Blanc Academy Reviews

My kids were enrolled at Grand Blanc Academy for about 6 years. The first couple of years my children were enrolled, I thought the school was wondeful the principle was great, the staff was respectful, and to top it off they had uniforms. As my chidren continued to go to GBA the school went downhill. They got a new principle, the staff was very rude, they got rid of the dress code, the curriclum was very low, and the displine was horrible! Overall I would not reconmend this school to anyone.

I go to the school and it is a very great school and I know because I have wonderful 5th grade teachers,Mrs.Murphy and Mrs.Lutz!

High quality education that encourages parent involvement. I have 2 children enrolled in the school and have been involved since my oldest started kindergarten in 2002. It's great to have them starting to learn spanish in kindergarten! My oldest is also involved in the GBA Singers that practices twice a week after school. The security is wonderful, with security cameras in every classroom (parents can see their children on the TV screens in the entrance of the school) and a locked front doorway so the staff has to confirm who you are before you enter the school.

This school is the absolute worst school. I knew first hand how much the administrators didn't care about the kids education. All they cared about was money and it showed. The employee turnover was outrageous and uncalled for. Please, do not send your children there, you will end up pulling them within a year or two anyways I guarantee it!!!!

There was not a lot of extracurriular activities, and a very low education.

Well, we have withdrawn from the school for the upcoming school year. Too many things have changed and like other reviewers have mentioned from a couple years back... bullies are STILL allowed to run the rooms. Administration appears to be too scared to talk to those parents, and can be very rude to those parents who do help out. The first year there was very good and kids learned a lot! Since then... academics have gone down and it just seems as though teachers have to spend most of their class time taking care of the under achievers and class disrupters.

Overall GBA is a good school. The principal does a great job with the students. Most of the teachers are great Wenzlick, Mengal, Arnott, Van Goethom to name a few. Some of the teachers do take more interest in the children that disrupt class and give them way to many chances. Some of them will even make excuses for the trouble makers. There is a need for more activities for the children. Extending the building may provide more room for the children to move around.

Grand Blanc Academy is a decent school. They have an Awesome afterschool program, Oasis. Curriculum-wise, I do question some of the materials and exercises being taught and used, particularly some of the Paragon lessons and activities (these Paragon lessons are in-class lessons, not take-home). They teach a great deal about ancient religions, which is very ironic since a child is scolded for mentioning Jesus or God. One exercise was to write a letter to the 'sun god' thanking him for the light. Showed videos about ancient civilizations that are rather questionable, showing detailed rituals. Voiced my concerns w/the teacher, she allowed me to preview the rest of the videos. I had concerns w/the way they jump around w/math concepts. One day addition, the next day- time, something else the day after that. Cleanliness issues- lots of illness which I believe to be due to that filthy carpet! Need more extra-curricular activities.

I have been sending my children to this school since our boys havbe been in kindergarten. They now are in 3rd grade. I also have a first grader. Our family loves this school. The staff is wonderful, friendly and easy to talk to. The classrooms are clean and each have several computers for our children to work on. My third graders just learned Power Point Presentations! I am also very pleased with GBA academicly. My children are doing great in math and reading! There are about 18 to 25 kids in each class with the younger grades having a parapro to assist the teachers. They meet everyones needs. I do have to say there is not a lot of extracurricular activities, but they often send home info for G.B. Parks & Rec. and other activities in the area. There is a lot of parent involvement, which is always welcomed and encouraged.

My grandson has attended GBA since kindergarten and is now in the 4th grade. My daughter is very pleased with the overall education that he is receiving and he has certainly excelled in most all subjects. There seems to be very caring and well trained teachers as far as we can see. I do wish there were extra curricular activities such as band, sports, etc as most kids who have to leave after 8th grade are at a disadvantage to partake in these activities when they enter public schools because they have had no prior involvement or learning experience. There really needs to be some extracurricular activites implemented for these children.

Unfortunately I removed my three children from the school after 2 years. The teachers have been wonderful, but bullies are allowed to disrupt the classrooms and are not disciplined. Administration is very slow and very hesitant to react and does not return phone calls promptly. I would recommend this school only for younger students.

I wrote a review of this school this time last year. My four children still attend GBA. This past year wasn't as successful as I had hoped. The supervision provided during lunch and recess were untrained. Administration was disrespectful to adults. Children with behavior problems were allowed to run the classrooms. I feel all students should be treated equal. I am not giving up on the school just yet. I know that this school can be a very positive experience for my children when the school is running the way it should be. I plan to voice my opinion more, and to get involved in the parent group. Let's hold the administration accountable and make the effort to make the changes our children deserve. Then if there are still problems, changing schools can be considered. Don't just run to a new school first. Our children need to see us making the effort.

My son attended Grand Blanc Academy and we loved this school. The teachers took the time to build a relationship with my son, every year he was sad to leave his teacher. The afterschool program is also excellent. I have moved out of state and we miss GBA and all the teachers and staff

I am afraid that this school was unable to provided the help my daughter need. We found the entire staff to unhelpful and unwatchful of the childern. my daughter is now in public school, and is doing much better. Her reading level has tripled in the last six months.

My husband and I are so thankful for this school for our daughter, this is the first time we feel she is finally getting the best education. She got nothing from public schools. Grand Blanc Academy has provided our daughter with the help she needs to catch up with the things that she should have been taught in public schools. The principal is very willing to listen and help and has shown a great interest in our daughters education. I'd recomend this school to anyone who cares about their childs education. We are truely blessed to have the Grand Blanc team be a part of our family.

My daughter is in her second year at Grand Blanc Academy. The teachers have so far been excellent! The teachers she has had care about the students and give them 1 on 1 personal attention. She attended pre-school for two years at two different schools prior to being enrolled in Grand Blanc Academy and the level of comittment at this school is so much greater then the previous ones she attended. I have recommended this school to many of my friends and my daughter will continue to attend this school as long as she is able to. I highly recommend it to you as well. What an awesome school!

My child is in his 3rd year at the academy and overall has had a very positve experience. I pulled him out of public schools in 1st grade and am very pleased that I did. They care more about the children rather than the dollars they would get vs the public schools. They work very hard with each child and each child has every opportunety to excel in every subject. Parent involvement is crucial for any school to succeed weather its helping in the classroom, volunterring items needed or just knowing what your child is doing and making sure the homework is done. I would give this school 5 stars.

My children are in their second year at Grand Blanc Academy. I have been very involved in the school and have been very happy not only with the education but also the discipline and qualities of teaching. The principal is always there to greet and oversee not only the classrooms but mrning and afternoon dismissal. The only negative feedback I have seen from parents in this school are from the ones whose children are behavior problems. Overall I believe that this style of teaching has been very good for my children.

My child is currently enrolled at this school. He began kindertgarten at a Flint Edison School. When there was an opening at GBA, I immediately transferred him. The Principal and teachers have been very instrumental in making his transitions successful. He is now a first grader and loving it! He went from hating school and severe discipline problems to being a model student through the patience and care of the staff at GBA. Had I kept him in public school, they would have written him off as special ed. I know because I attended public school and saw it time and again. GBA was recommended to me through a friend and it was the best choice I could have made.

My three boys have been in this school since it opened. I am completely disturbed by the broken promise to extend to 12th grade. In addition, the lack of supervision on the playground led to several incidents where my children were hurt. When bringing these concerns to the principal, I was summarily dismissed. As such, I dismiss GBA. I am enrolling my children in the local public schools this year. I would never again recommend this school to any parents.

I previously had 2 children at Grand Blanc Academy. My eldest child attended Grand Blanc Academy for 2 years and my youngest attended for 1 year. After the continuing bad experiences, lack of teachers (4th and 5th grades) abilities, skills and cooperation, and total disapproval and dissappointment of their system I removed my children and they are now attending Public school.

I currently have four children attending GBA. I have found this school to be a very positive learning experience for us. Teachers encourage parent involvement. My oldest child is in middle school and enjoyed after school practice for a play and a talent show. She also was able to receive after school tutoring in subjects that she was having some problems in. I highly recommend this school for your child!
