Glen Garner Elementary School Reviews

I can not say enough great things about Garner! We moved to our dream house out in the clio country, but I have heard so many horror stories about clio schools. After enrolling my daughter in the Lacure Developmental kindergarten program, which was a complete nightmare, I asked to be transfered to Edgerton after viewing the school. It was like a private school in a public school setting. Unfortuneatly we could not go there, as their kindergarten numbers were too high. So after speaking with Mike Lytle, the Garner principal, and viewing Mrs. Pearce's class, I was honored to have my daughter attend Garner, which also offers a private education type setting. Mrs. Pearce afternoon kindergarten is where my daughter was placed, and we could not have a more dedicated, nuturing, and respectful teacher. Garner is a wonderful school, we plan to keep her there for her entire elementary career.

Glen Garner has gone to great lengths to improve their security. Since my last review they have heard parents concerns and have greatly improved. The principal has been a great help and has been very understanding. Therefore, I am retracting my previous review and giving Glen Garner a Thumbs Up!

there is little to no supervision at this school. I have pulled my kindergarten child out and have been homeschooling him. I would like to send him back however thus far I have had no resolve to this issue. On the play ground the children are nearly completly unsupervised. I was witness to the children getting to school and waiting infront of a locked classroom for nearly 10 minutes for their teacher to arrive. I have spoken to the principal and the teacher with no results.

Garner is top notch with providing an overall well-rounded education for my children. I cannot say enough good things about the Garner Boosters. They provide SOOOOO much for the students (i.e. they pay for the majority of the cost of the class t-shirts [parents only pay $3], they provide funding for many of the field trips and transportation to the event, the Fun Fair, Kindergarten & 4th Grade Promotion, Track and Field, as well as the monthly Super Student activities where the kids get to make crafts.) I do agree, however, that if the parent requests a certain teacher, the child should be placed in that room. NOBODY knows the child better than the parent. As much as I like Mr. Lytle, I wish he would budge on this. I hope as he gains experience he will realize this. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great principal besides that.

Principal/Does not accept requests. Will listen to a parent's concerns, yet is not proactive in finding solutions for parents. Teacher/I would like to be unable to choose a specific teacher in which to send my child yet each year I only have one. Extracurricular/Activities occurred through Bridges to the Future which staff are paid, basketball and student council were volunteer. Parents/Involved w/ helping staff and concerned for their child's education. Safety/Dis./At recess not enough supervision. Discipline goes by a check mark system w/a child's name on the board and every warning is a visible checkmark. Overall/I was very satisfied with the education my children were receiving until this school year. I needed to see my child's work and proof that the instructor was teaching. What was set in place by the principal was not enforced. The school board was also approached.

Here, i am, searching for another school to send my child to, because garner is not the place for my child. I've not only felt the negativity by the teachers, but also the negativity of the 'new principal' there. My child has problems comprehending the teachers at garner, maybe because of his ethnic background. The teacher there, claims that she works with him, when my child tells me, she yells at him. This makes my child feel intimidated, 'of course.' And all learning skills that could be successful, turn into failure, due to the gross mistreatment of my child. I've read the other parents reviews, and i can relate to one. It brought me to tears, knowing, that i'm not alone. I'm searching now, for another school, for all my children. I feel the district is 'highly' prejudice to ethnic children. So sad! a child is merely a child.

My son has ADHD and is quite a handful sometimes and the teachers and principal of Garner have been very patient and helpful with him. I didnt have to first clue how to handle his situation and with their help he has had a better educational experience despite his problem. I think the staff at garner are great!

My daughter has attended Garner for 3 years now. I had a bad experience with one of the teachers at Garner, she was mean and yelled at the children alot. When I went to the principle with my concerns he just came to the teachers defense. I am taking my child out of Garner after she finishes up this school year. I don't think they focus enough on making sure their teachers are up to par.

My child had a very bad experience at Garner Elementary. When I decided to use my school of choice option, and transfer her to a different school. I filled out the necessary paperwork to have her transferred to a more fitting school that said I would need to wait a few weeks while they hired another teacher to open a new classroom. I was informed I still needed to fill out the paperwork to ensure her a place once it was available. The next day her teacher had thrown all of her school supplies into the trash, and told me that she was being sent to the other school. Naturally, I assumed the other school found a vacancy for her. This wasn't the case, this school had decided to dump my child from their school. I wouldn't recommend that any child be put through what my child was put through at the beginning of this school year 2003. She had to wait for another two weeks to attend school. Luckily Montrose schools were very patient and caring about what she has been through and I've never seen her happier.
